What to Expect in an EMDR Therapy Intensive:
A Personalized, Compassionate Approach
What You’ll Receive in an EMDR Intensive
Healing doesn’t happen by accident — it works best when it’s held, structured, and personalized. Your EMDR intensive is designed to offer depth and safety, creating space for real change. Here’s how we’ll move through it together:
1. Pre-Intensive Interview
Set your intention. Clarify your focus.
Before the intensive begins, we’ll have a one-on-one session. In this space, we’ll dig into where you feel stuck now, what you most want to shift, and what outcome would feel meaningful to you. This helps shape a clear, tailored plan for the time ahead — so when your intensive begins, it’s already aligned with you.
2. Personalized Workbook + Self-Care Guide
Reflect. Prepare. Care for yourself.
You’ll receive a customized workbook once you book your intensive. Inside you’ll find:
Thoughtful journaling prompts to help you name your hopes, fears, and goals before we begin
Reflection exercises to connect with the parts of yourself you’d like to focus on in the healing process
Practical self-care tips — before, during, and after the intensive — to help your nervous system.
Think of this as a companion tool to help you arrive more centered, intentional, and ready for deeper work.
3. The Intensive: Retreat-Style Healing
Work deeply. Be supported. Feel safe.
Your intensive is designed as a space and time to allow you to fully focus on yourself and your healing. Within this space, we’ll blend therapeutic reprocessing with somatic support. Possible elements include:
Gentle movement breaks and somatic (body-based) exercises
Grounding or mindfulness exercises to help you stay present and regulated
Expressive arts, creative practices like art or music — if it feels good for you
Everything is optional, paced, and adapted to your process. My job is to help you feel as safe and grounded as possible while you explore, process, and integrate.
4. Post-Intensive Integration Session
Reflect. Anchor your gains. Plan what’s next.
After your intensive, we’ll meet to explore what came up, what has shifted, and what feels possible moving forward. Together, we’ll map out the next steps — whether it’s ongoing therapy, self-care practices, or coordinating with other providers. With your permission, I can also reach out to your existing therapists, physicians, or mental health team to help your work stay connected.
Your Healing Journey — Supported Every Step
From that first conversation to follow-up integration, every phase is built to support your transformation on emotional, mental, and bodily levels. You won’t navigate this alone — I’m with you, every step of the way as you move toward deeper clarity, confidence, and balance.
Who Are EMDR Therapy Intensives For?
EMDR Therapy Intensives are ideal for individuals who:
Have busy professional and personal schedules that don’t allow weekly therapy sessions.
Feel stuck in therapy after months or years of traditional weekly or biweekly therapy.
Want a concentrated approach to address trauma, anxiety, or PTSD.
Are navigating a significant life transition, such as healing from infidelity or divorce
Are seeking to heal from longstanding, unresolved past experiences that are getting in the way of relationships.
If you're looking for a focused and effective way to achieve meaningful progress, EMDR Therapy Intensives may be the right fit for you.

Why Choose EMDR Intensives vs. Weekly Therapy?
Feel better, faster
Whether you've experienced a recent trauma or been living with chronic symptoms for years, you want relief today. If you're a busy parent or have a demanding job, weekly therapy may be too much. EMDR intensives is an effective, accelerated approach that brings you peace now and allows you to get back to your life.
Deeper, focused healing
In weekly, 50 minute sessions, you have just enough time to settle in, talk about your week and maybe get into 20 minutes of trauma processing. The retreat-like, intensive approach, provides the environment and the space to go deeperinto reprocessing work plus plenty of time for resourcing, meditation, or even a walk outside in the beautiful Berkshire mountain air.
Cost Effective
Research shows that EMDR intensives over the course of a few days provide similar outcomes to months of weekly therapy. Research shows that EMDR Intensives result in a significant reduction of PTSD and Complex PTSD symptoms in up to 100% of participants (Bongaertz et al., 2017 and Mendez et al., 2017).
An intensive is a significant upfront investment. That’s why I offer different interest-free payment plan options, including Care Credit. Learn more and apply here.

Frequently Asked Questions About
EMDR Therapy Intensives
-
EMDR intensives are appropriate for most issues treated with ongoing, weekly therapy. EMDR may not be appropriate for those in active addiction or with certain medical conditions. Contact Rachel if you have questions about if EMDR intensives are right for you.
-
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a highly effective approach in treating trauma-related symptoms and facilitating healing. During EMDR therapy sessions, clients focus on traumatic memories or distressing thoughts while engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, taps, or auditory tones. This dual attention process allows the brain to reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional intensity and facilitating adaptive resolution. EMDR therapy is evidence-based and widely used to address a range of trauma-related disorders, including PTSD.
-
The biggest difference is time! EMDR intensives allow us to take a deep dive into your healing. In a standard 50 minute EMDR session, by the time you catch up on your week, you may only have 20 minutes of reprocessing time. Intensives give us plenty of time to allow you to arrive, settle in, going deep into the reprocessing and then spend time finding a peaceful closing
-
Depending on your goals and desires, intensives may include meditation, movement, art-making, breathwork, time outdoors, and of course trauma re-processing. There will plenty of time to just talk too!
